How to Verify an Online Pharmacy for GLP-1 Medication

Verify the dispensing pharmacy before ordering a GLP-1: match its license, address and contact details, then confirm who will actually fill the prescription.

To verify an online pharmacy selling GLP-1 medication, make 3 matches: its legal name, physical address and active license record. Start with your state pharmacy board through the FDA’s directory. A logo or license number printed on a sales page is not enough.[1]

Identify the pharmacy that will dispense the prescription, which may differ from the telehealth brand collecting payment. Our online semaglutide guide covers the broader buying decision; this page focuses on the license check.

Find the dispenser before checkout

Ask the seller for the pharmacy’s legal name, street address and phone number. If the platform uses several pharmacies, ask which one is assigned to your prescription and when that becomes known.

Search the state board’s record directly. Compare the name and address, license status and any relevant permit information. If the pharmacy is in another state, ask your state board how to confirm its authority to ship to you. A missing result may need clarification, not an immediate accusation.

Confirm the relationship independently

Contact the pharmacy using a phone number from the board record or its independently located official site. Ask whether it dispenses for the seller and can confirm the prescription once received. Avoid relying only on a number supplied in an unsolicited message.

FDA has reported fraudulent compounded GLP-1 labels naming nonexistent pharmacies, and others naming real pharmacies that did not make the product.[2] That makes identity matching more useful than a screenshot of a purported license.

Check the product as a separate question

A state license concerns the pharmacy. FDA approval concerns the product. A licensed pharmacy can dispense approved drugs and may compound medications under applicable requirements; those categories should not be blurred.

Read the 503A and 503B distinction and the compounded semaglutide evidence before treating a registration claim as a product endorsement. FDA’s BeSafeRx materials also emphasize prescriptions and access to a pharmacist.[3]

Match the package when it arrives

Compare the dispensing label against the pharmacy you verified. Check your name, medication, concentration, instructions and beyond-use or expiration information. Ask the pharmacist to resolve inconsistencies before using it.

A correct-looking label does not resolve a shipping problem. If the package arrives warm, follow the warm-delivery steps. Keep the packaging and order records while the pharmacy investigates. The aim is a traceable prescription and an accountable dispenser, not merely a convincing storefront.

Frequently asked

Does a telehealth company need to be the pharmacy?
No. Ask which pharmacy actually dispenses the medication and verify that organization separately.
Does a pharmacy license prove a compounded drug is FDA-approved?
No. Pharmacy licensing and FDA approval of a drug product are different checks.
